LOCAL/GLOBAL COMMUNITIES OF CARE: Films, Words, and Conversations
Stroud Film Festival, The Goods Shed SVA, Stroud, Thursday 9 March 2023, 7-9pm
Local/Global Communities of Care is an evening of short films by women and gender variant filmmakers, both local and global, which explore anti-capitalist practices of care, repair, and solidarity across human and other-than-human worlds. Reflecting on the connections formed in making across spaces, disciplines, and communities, the event will also feature live readings and conversations with writers and filmmakers.
We invite submissions for short films (20-minutes max.) and live readings (10-minutes max.) that reflect on relations and environments of care, repair, and solidarity from a variety of different perspectives. We are interested in care in relation to: the clinical; the environmental; the socio-political; the personal; the interpersonal; the material; the historical; the affective; the temporal; the fictional.
In this way, we are particularly interested in hearing from filmmakers, artists, and writers whose work explores themes of care in relation to gender, sexuality, race, class, dis/ability, sociality, community, ecology, sustainability, empathy, embodiment, and slowness.
Curated by a filmmaker and a writer, this evening of screenings, live readings, and conversations will bring together creative practitioners working across disciplines in the effort to build community and ideas exchange, across images and words.
To submit, please email alice.e.butler@rca.ac.uk with a private link to view the film, short description and bio by Tuesday 31 January.
